Daffodil Day

Yellow was the colour of the day on Friday 31 August for Riwaka School students as they placed money on the coin trail in the playground to raise funds for the Cancer Society Daffodil Day. Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved $188.40 was donated.

Farewell to Jane Adams

Friday 17 August was the final day for Jane as a teacher here at Riwaka School.  Jane has retired after 41 years in the teaching profession.  Staff, students, parents both past and present gave her a great send off complete with red carpet treatment.  Riwaka School will miss Jane.

We wish Jane and Strachan all the best in their retirement adventures together.

Volleyball Coaching

Armins Vehsderis came into taught Rooms 5 - 8 skills in volleyball.  Some of the skills taught were serving, passing, setting and how to do a volley.  We all had a go by working with buddies.  Armins plays for the Nelson Volleyball team so he was perfect for the job of coaching us.  The instructions we got were clear and understandable and we look forward to his next visit.

40 Hour Famine

40 Hour Famine
Congratulations to the 30 students who stayed the night at school last Thursday  to complete the 20 Hour Famine. They were a privilege to give up my comfy bed for.  A special thank you to Jo Bryant and Nina Pelling for also giving up their beds to help me with their supervision.

Students need to have their sponsorship money to the office along with the sponsorship booklets by this Thursday.

Some of the students who cared enough
about other children around the world to stay the night

Kiwi Swim Safe

Towards the end of last year we reviewed our school Swim Safe programme in consultation with Brenda Goulter, a Swimming New Zealand Swim Safe Educator. Brenda, as a follow-up, provided PD for the teaching staff.

We have adopted the revised Kiwi Swim Safe programme and launched this at a special assembly on Wednesday 21 March. Koru The Kiwi was in attendance.

The students will be given a school swimming certificate when they pass each module. The Kiwi Swim Safe Certificate will be given to them when they leave Riwaka School or when they have completed all the modules, whichever comes first.

The Colour Purple

Lately some of the Riwaka School staff have really been in the pink purple!
Firstly there was plenty of purple about last Thursday on Purple Cake Day.
A change of outfits for Relay For Life over the weekend. Eight staff participated in a team of 18 which managed to raise just over $3000 for the Cancer Society.  There were some tired people around on Monday but it is a tremendous event to be involved in.  Thanks to those who made donations.
